Nigel meets coffee farmers on ‘eye-opening’ trip to Brazil

Our founder Nigel Seaman embarked on an ‘eye-opening’ trip to Brazil to meet the remarkable farmers helping us transform lives on Suffolk soil.

Nigel travelled to the South American nation in February to visit the farms which have supplied our business with coffee beans since 2020.

Those included the Bom Jesus farm, where beans for our Cuppa Towen roast are sourced, and Fazenda Sao Lucas, home to the beans used for the St George’s roast – named after St George’s House at HMP Hollesley Bay, where the first Combat2Coffee beans were ever roasted.

Nigel said: “This was an incredible trip which taught us so much about the amazing work that goes behind making our now famous coffee.

“Meeting the remarkable people who make our work here in the UK possible was eye-opening and it was great to hear them speak so passionately about our work too.”

All coffee beans used to brew our drinks are 100% single sourced and sustainably traced in a fairtrade context to ensure farmers receive the fairest possible price.

Other stops on the trip included the Agua Santa farm, which first provided coffee to Nigel when he launched the business, and the forward-thinking Terra Pletta farm.

Flavia Lancha, one of the owners of the Bom Jesus farm, also invited him to visit the Aleph project, a scheme he funds to help educate underprivileged children in the region.

Nigel sponsored 10 children taking part in the project and will be updating followers about their progress on our social media channels.

Nigel added: “The work farmers like Flavia and others are doing in Brazil is simply incredible.

“Our mission at Combat2Coffee is to change lives, one sip at a time – and it is great to know that by purchasing our beans from social enterprising farmers, we are achieving that both in the UK and Brazil too.

“The lessons we have learned from the trip will have a profound impact on me and our operations. A huge thank you goes out to everyone in Brazil for their hospitality and our amazing supporters here in the UK.”
